<description>Web Archiving as Civic Duty March 22, 2018 at the New Museum, New York eaw.rhizome.org In this panel, we grapple with the ways in which researchers, archivists, civically engaged citizens, and grassroots activists can keep track of the official public record, even as government agencies seek to delete, destroy, and dissemble it. We look at unique challenges that archivists face in unearthing and preserving federal websites, government social media platforms, environmental data, and born-digital military documents. Together and with an eye towards the future, we reflect on the ways in which web archives and data are understood, (re)imagined, and contested.
